Notorious British artists, the Chapman Brothers, and UTA Artist Space in Los Angeles invited brand specialists UXUS to design a pop-up store to complement the world-famous artist duo’s first exhibition in Los Angeles: "To Live and Think Like Pigs", open until 11 March 2017.

This is the second collaboration between the Netherland-based design agency and the Chapman Brothers, following their first ever store ‘F**king Hell das Shop’. Located in the heart of Amsterdam’s Red Light district, for that project UXUS transformed an abandoned massage parlour into an evocative exhibition and retail experience.

For the Los Angeles pop-up store, To Live and Think Like Pigs UXUS were tasked to provide an alternative and informal way to engage with the Chapman Brothers’ latest works on display.

The agency applied its “Art X Design” philosophy to design a retail space which offers a multi-dimensional experience, where guests can choose how they interact and engage with the art.

Visitors have a chance to pick up a memento at the pop-up shop, where culture meets commerce.
The Chapman Brothers’ signature smiley faces unapologetically brand the pop-up, inviting curious passersby for a flash culture fix. The offer includes an array of disparate artefacts, ranging from a series of etchings and posters, to special edition t-shirts, plates, signed books, Cardboard Dinosaurs and zippo lighters – all new and recent works by the world-renowned artists, to accompany the exhibition in the main gallery space.

In this exciting exhibition, visitors are exposed to motifs that highlight human decay, nodding to darker themes, Nazi war crimes, Satanism, and the perversion of political conflict. Upon entering the space, audiences will encounter the artists’ Victorian portrait series. Also on view, are “Disasters of War IV”, and “Human Rainbow II”. Both series examines themes drawn from the Second World War.

Further in the exhibition, visitors will find one of the infamous “Hellscapes” – an unsettling diorama that marries comedy with horror. To Live and Think Like Pigs exhibition and pop-up shop is open until 11 March.
